EV Battery Prices Plunge 18% as Model Choice Quadruples

Real-world battery electric vehicle prices in Germany fell 18% from 2019 to 2024 while model offerings quadrupled, according to a new study by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and Fraunhofer ISI. The trend signals accelerating EV adoption and booming demand for power electronics.

The analysis adjusted for vehicle size, range, and features to track actual price changes, revealing that BEVs have become far more accessible. The average real price drop occurred despite rising list prices, driven by improved battery pack costs and more affordable smaller-segment models. Simultaneously, the number of distinct BEV models available in Germany surged from under 30 to over 120, giving buyers unprecedented choice.

This electrification wave directly fuels PCB demand. Each EV requires numerous power conversion and battery management systems that rely on heavy copper, IMS, and HDI PCBs to handle high currents and thermal loads. As costs fall and production volumes climb, OEMs will need robust, high-reliability board suppliers to keep pace with the expanding EV ecosystem.

LT CIRCUIT specializes in heavy copper and IMS PCBs ideal for EV onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, and battery management systems. Our advanced manufacturing ensures the thermal performance and current-carrying capacity that next-generation electric powertrains demand, positioning us to support this growing market.
