NVIDIA’s explosive demand for AI servers is driving a sharp increase in orders for high-density interconnect (HDI) and high-layer-count printed circuit boards (PCBs), according to industry reports. This surge, which began in early 2025, is straining global PCB manufacturing capacity and reshaping supply-chain dynamics for OEMs and electronics engineers.

The shift to NVIDIA’s GH200 and upcoming Blackwell GPU platforms requires PCBs with significantly higher layer counts—often beyond 20 layers—and advanced HDI any-layer technology to manage dense interconnects and thermal loads. IC substrates, a critical component for GPU packaging, are also in heavy demand. These complex boards demand specialized production lines, including laser drilling and sequential lamination, which few manufacturers can scale rapidly. Tier-1 PCB suppliers in Taiwan and China are allocating dedicated capacity, with some reporting lead times stretching to 12–16 weeks for high-end server boards.

The ripple effects are tightening the entire PCB supply chain. Raw materials such as high-speed laminates from Rogers and Panasonic face allocation constraints, while capital equipment for HDI fabrication is booked through 2026. PCB assemblers note that dual-sourcing and qualification cycles are accelerating to avoid bottlenecks. For OEM buyers, securing allocation from certified manufacturers has become a top priority, with flexible rigid-flex designs gaining traction for high-bandwidth memory modules. Industry analysts project that AI-server-related PCB demand will grow by over 40% in 2025, pushing total market revenue for HDI and high-layer boards to record levels.

For PCB manufacturers such as LT CIRCUIT, which specialize in HDI any-layer, IC substrates, and high-layer-count boards, the NVIDIA-driven boom presents both opportunities and capacity challenges. These companies are strategically expanding production lines to meet the stringent requirements of AI server clients.
