PsiQuantum has landed a $125 million contract from DARPA, the US defense research agency, to test its utility-scale quantum computing technology under the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, marking the company’s largest government agreement to date.
The $125 million contract, part of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI), aims to rigorously evaluate PsiQuantum’s photonic-based approach to building a fault-tolerant quantum computer. DARPA is assessing whether any quantum computing technology can achieve utility-scale operation by 2035, and PsiQuantum claims its silicon photonics platform can deliver commercially viable systems on an accelerated timeline. This funding follows a previous engagement with DARPA and underscores growing federal investment in quantum technology, viewed as critical for national security and economic competitiveness.
